My SingStar Abba PS3 disc has a bug, in that when you quit the game the normal way (PS button ==> Quit Game), it just restarts the console and thus the game, as any disc inside it boots up automatically when the console itself starts.

Sony know about this bug, and have uploaded a patch. In order for me to download this patch however, the system requires me to quit the game. Which restarts the console...

Very ironic. How I'm supposed to install this bug-fixer which sets off the very bug it's supposed to fix, I have no idea.

While your PS3 is in standby mode, press the eject button. This ejects the disc and solves your problem!

You can also make a change in Settings so that it doesn't autoplay things in the drive without explicit instructions so to do.

Aha - do you mean eject it when the console's in the middle of resetting, or do you just mean that pressing the standby button is a different safe way to quit the game? If the former, will it remember that it was supposed to download something? It needs the game to have started first - I tried checking for updates with the game ejected and it couldn't find any.

Heh - the SingStar team on the Facebook page told me how to fix it. Apparently I had to change the wallpaper in the game, which would allow me to reboot and download the patch - and it worked. Who'd've thought the wallpaper was the problem...

I'm glad it was something as counter-intuitive as that, rather than me just being thick. Thanks for your advice anyway - I'll be changing the autoplay option now I know how to.

Ooh, you haven't given me five things from that meme yet btw. Just don't make 'techofear' one of them ;-).

Wallpaper? The problem was the wallpaper? WTF?

No five things yet, I'm still pondering. Hmm.

I know! Bizarre, eh?

Still pondering - that makes me worry slightly, as it suggests I'm either very enigmatic, or very boring, lol. I'm choosing the former.
